1 INTRO

Leading the Charge

The Royal Vancouver Yacht Club (RVYC), one of Canada’s most prestigious yacht clubs, partnered with VoltSafe to deliver a groundbreaking upgrade to its shore power infrastructure at Wigwam Inn. Prior to the installation, RVYC was facing increasing challenges with wasted energy, expensive peak demand charges, unoptimized dock operations requiring manual oversight, and frequent hardware issues such as burnt plugs and breakaway cord damage. As the first full-scale installation of its kind, this smart marina deployment represents a major step forward for operational safety, efficiency, and sustainability.

2 INITIAL TESTING

From Trial to Triumph

Before the full rollout at Wigwam Inn, VoltSafe's technology was first beta tested at RVYC’s Jericho location using a single phase 30A pedestal and command centre dashboard. This hands-on trial allowed RVYC to evaluate the system’s ability to simplify shore power connections, eliminate arcing, and provide real-time energy monitoring. The results spoke for themselves - VoltSafe addressed the operational concerns RVYC had expressed, including safety risks, manual oversight, and inefficient energy use. These outcomes, which mirror challenges faced by marinas globally, directly led to the decision to implement a full-scale deployment at Wigwam Inn.

1 - Prototype Installation

VoltSafe’s beta began at RVYC Jericho with a single-phase 30A control box, showcasing a safer, simpler way to connect shore power. To simplify installation, we affixed a metal panel and easily mounted the VoltSafe control box, wiring it to their existing infrastructure.

2 - Dashboard 101

Our team conducted a full walkthrough of the VoltSafe dashboard, ensuring the marina operators were well-versed with the system and its capabilities. From real-time monitoring, usage tracking, and more, the training keyed in on the features and benefits of the command centre platform. The system helps reduce manual labour while improving efficiencies by delivering critical notifications.

3 - Hands On Testing

Members and staff trialed the system directly, validating safer plug-ins, no arcing, and effortless connections. This hands-on proof built confidence that VoltSafe could modernize shore power without disrupting marina operations.

4 - Data Tracking and Feedback

Energy usage data and system alerts provided RVYC with proof that VoltSafe solved safety, oversight, and efficiency challenges. The clear, actionable insights empowered the marina to optimize power use and reduce risks in real time.

5 - Installation at Wigwam

Encouraged by Jericho’s results, RVYC committed to a full deployment at Wigwam Inn—paving the way for smarter marinas worldwide. The large-scale rollout demonstrated how pilot learnings translate into tangible, scalable impact across an entire facility.

3 WIGWAM ROLLOUT

Canada’s First Fully Smart Marina

Chris Barnett, Marine Assets & Operations Manager, Royal Vancouver Yacht Club shares the inside story.
RVYC’s decision to fully deploy VoltSafe’s smart shore power solution across every slip at Wigwam Inn is a testament to its forward-thinking leadership and commitment to innovation. Recognizing the growing challenges of energy waste, high peak demand charges, manual dock management, and frequent equipment failures like burnt plugs and breakaway damage, RVYC took decisive action to modernize its infrastructure. By replacing legacy systems with custom-built VoltSafe panels, RVYC has become the first marina in Canada to operate a fully smart dock powered by real-time data and intelligent controls.

The result? Safer, arc-free connections, remote access to power management, and significantly reduced operational risk, all while laying the groundwork for more efficient, sustainable marine operations in the years to come.

5 THE FUTURE

Scalable, Global Potential

Sanad Aridah, CTO of VoltSafe, tells us about the importance of this collaboration with the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club.
The success of VoltSafe’s full-scale deployment at Wigwam Inn marks just the beginning. As RVYC explores expansion to its other facilities, the benefits of smart shore power are becoming increasingly clear—not just locally, but across the broader marine industry.
With real-time energy data now at their fingertips, RVYC is unlocking new opportunities for optimizing fleet operations and dockside efficiency. And because VoltSafe’s technology is both retrofit-ready and ideal for new builds, marinas around the world can now future-proof their infrastructure with a scalable, safety-first solution.
What’s Next:
• Expansion to other RVYC facilities
• Data-driven optimization across more fleets
• Scalable deployment for both retrofits and new construction globally
