Government selects VoltSafe & the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club for Marine Testbed

News

VoltSafe is proud to be one of the first companies selected to participate in a newly announced Marine and Coastal Testbed, an initiative launched through Innovate BC’s Integrated Marketplace. This announcement was unveiled by the Government of BC on Friday, March 27th in Vancouver to find new ways to solve industry challenges with made-in-B.C. technology.

This province-wide testbed represents a major step forward in accelerating marine innovation across B.C., enabling companies like VoltSafe to test, deploy, and scale breakthrough technologies in real-world coastal environments. For VoltSafe, this is more than just a pilot, it’s a critical milestone in validating and advancing our technology as core infrastructure for marine electrification.

Advancing Marine Electrification in Real-World Conditions

As part of the testbed, VoltSafe will deploy its smart shore power solution at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club’s Jericho Marina. This live environment provides an ideal proving ground to demonstrate the performance, safety, and operational advantages of VoltSafe’s technology in conditions where electrical reliability and safety are paramount.

“Collaborating with innovative companies like VoltSafe through Innovate BC’s Integrated Marketplace allows us to test, evaluate and deploy new technologies in a real-world marina environment," remarked Chris Barnett, Marine Assets & Operations Manager, Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. “This initiative gives us the opportunity to enhance safety, improve operational efficiency, and support the transition to more sustainable marine infrastructure. We’re proud to partner in advancing practical solutions for B.C.’s coastal communities, particularly across our properties.”

Marine electrification is rapidly becoming a global priority, but legacy shore power systems present significant limitations from safety risks and inefficiencies to constrained electrical capacity. VoltSafe’s technology directly addresses these challenges by enabling safer, smarter, and more flexible power delivery at the dock.

Through this initiative, VoltSafe will generate the real-world data and validation required to accelerate adoption across marinas, ports, and waterfront infrastructure globally.

Why This Matters for VoltSafe

Participation in the Integrated Marketplace testbed is a powerful validation of VoltSafe’s role in the future of marine infrastructure.

One of the biggest barriers facing deep-tech companies is the gap between innovation and adoption. Customers want proven solutions, but proving them requires access to real operating environments and trusted partners. The Integrated Marketplace is designed to solve exactly that problem, providing companies with reference customers and live deployments that de-risk adoption and unlock commercial scale.

What this means:

  • Real-world validation of our technology in an active marina
  • A high-value reference customer in the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club
  • Accelerated path to commercialization and global expansion
  • De-risked deployment for future customers and partners

This kind of validation is essential not only for customer adoption, but also for strategic partnerships, licensing opportunities, and continued investment as VoltSafe scales.

A Platform for Growth in a Transforming Industry

The Marine and Coastal Testbed is part of British Columbia’s broader “Look West” economic strategy, aimed at strengthening key industries while driving innovation, sustainability, and economic growth. The marine sector is already one of the largest in Canada and is undergoing a significant transformation as it moves toward decarbonization, electrification, and safer, smarter operations.

VoltSafe sits at the intersection of these trends.

Our technology supports:

  • Electrification and emissions reduction for marine vessels
  • Improved safety standards for shore power connections
  • More efficient use of limited electrical infrastructure
  • Scalable solutions for marinas, ports, and coastal communities

By participating in this testbed, VoltSafe is not only advancing its own technology, but also contributing to a broader shift toward cleaner, safer, and more resilient marine infrastructure.

Strengthening Partnerships That Matter

A key component of this initiative is collaboration. VoltSafe’s deployment with the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club highlights the importance of forward-thinking partners who are willing to lead by example and adopt next-generation solutions.

These partnerships are essential to driving meaningful progress. They enable faster iteration, better data, and stronger outcomes, not just for individual companies, but for the entire marine ecosystem.

From Local Validation to Global Opportunity

The Integrated Marketplace has already demonstrated its ability to help B.C. companies scale beyond the province by providing the reference cases needed to win business internationally. VoltSafe sees this testbed as a launchpad, not just for adoption within British Columbia, but for expansion into global marine markets.

As ports, marinas, and coastal operators worldwide look to modernize their infrastructure, the need for safe, intelligent electrification solutions will only continue to grow.

VoltSafe is building the technology to meet that demand and this testbed is a critical step in proving it at scale.

Looking Ahead

This announcement marks an important moment for VoltSafe and for the future of marine shore power and electrification in British Columbia. By combining government support, industry collaboration, and real-world deployment, the Integrated Marketplace is creating the conditions needed for innovation to thrive.

“British Columbia is setting the pace for marine innovation, and programs like Innovate BC’s Integrated Marketplace are critical to accelerating real-world deployment,” noted Trevor Burgess, VoltSafe’s CEO & Co-Founder. “Through our collaboration with the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, this initiative enables VoltSafe to validate next-generation electrification technologies in active coastal environments, alongside forward-thinking partners like RVYC. It’s a powerful model for advancing safety, sustainability, and economic growth across B.C.’s marine sector and we’re beyond thrilled to be part of it.”

Being selected validates our smart shore power solution in a live marina testbed, supported by Innovate BC and the BC provincial government. This positions us for rapid adoption across marinas and coastal infrastructure, while advancing marine electrification and sustainability.

For VoltSafe, the path forward is clear: validate, scale, and lead the transition to safer, smarter electrical infrastructure across the marine sector and beyond.
