Creating an ecosystem is more powerful than just a shore power pedestal.

Tech

VoltSafe is creating a shore power ecosystem that is both a marina operator and boater’s dream, with safety features that verge on aerospace levels while optimizing operational efficiency. It’s truly one-of-a-kind, with features like current leakage detection, utility-metering and automated billing, it eliminates the headaches associated with shore power, labour and EV charging. Built upon VoltSafe’s patented technology, it differentiates itself from traditional marine power pedestals and creates a complete ecosystem of safe, smart, and unparalleled control.

Traditional marine power pedestals are all designed with recessed contacts which make corrosion detection invisible and impossible to detect until it starts a marina or boat fire. Shore power pedestals are antiquated and require frequent maintenance and labour to manually monitor and manage electricity usage, which is operationally and financially  inefficient for marinas.

Since VoltSafe Marine uses magnetic contacts instead of prongs to connect to the electrical outlet, its patented technology controls the flow of electricity. On the outlet side, a sleeve-over adaptor retrofits to the outlet and magnetically pairs with its connector which allows power to flow safely. Without prongs or recessed outlets, VoltSafe Marine contacts eliminates arcing and hidden corrosion, the risks that lead to dangerous and expensive boat and marina fires.

“VoltSafe Marine is the most modern and convenient way of shore power solutions. A fully integrated shore power system with optimized functionalities. It’s easy to use and convenient for manual plug-in. With VoltSafe, there are no complicated plug-ins, no more hassles and no more need for twist locks that usually fail. Integrated with a modernized software app, with true live monitoring. It’s extremely user-friendly for Captains and boat enthusiasts, as well as Marina and Facility operators. All in one product destined to cover all the needs of the industry. It is extremely convenient and a great tool to survey the use and distribution of electric power in the Marina/Dock grid. This is definitely the future of shore power.” - Mauricio Guerra Navarro Dock Operations Coordinator at Coal Harbour Marina Ltd, Vancouver

VoltSafe’s patented technology keeps the plug off by default until a secure connection with the pedestal is established. Both marina operators and boaters can be confident that they are protected by safety levels that are near that found in the aerospace sector without paying the high cost associated with that level of safety.

There’s a belief at VoltSafe that what gets measured gets managed. Which is why its connectors are designed and implemented with smart capabilities that allow a user to monitor power being used at the outlet level. Using IoT-enabled connectivity, a boat owner can manage their boat’s power usage from a smartphone while a marina operator can manage every slip from a single dashboard, all while relying on the safest standard in marine  electrical safety.

Elisabeth Charmley, Executive Director and Co-Founder of the Vancouver Maritime Centre for Climate, added, “As electrification of assets proliferates, VoltSafe’s patented plug and outlet connectors will play a key role in energy management - VoltSafe is ahead of the curve.”

VoltSafe Marine is not only adaptable to suit most existing infrastructure, it is scalable and able to support the electrical needs of marinas with small pleasurecraft to commercial fleets or defence vessels.

VoltSafe has filed patents on its disruptive technology in over 40 countries. And the company is getting noticed. This past January, out of over a thousand worldwide submissions at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, VoltSafe earned a CES 2023 Innovation Award for its novel marine solution. Earlier this month, at IBEX in Tampa, Florida, VoltSafe took home the IBEX Innovation Award in the Boatyard & Marina Hardware & Software category for its groundbreaking shore power solution.

Up next, VoltSafe will also be heading to METSTRADE in Amsterdam, the worlds’ biggest marine industry trade show, for the team’s second consecutive appearance and the buzz going into it is palpable. The number of industry experts expressing a boatload of interest in VoltSafe Marine at these trade shows is growing and it is very validating for the creative and driven Canadian company. There is a need for safer, smarter, more efficient solutions for high voltage electricity throughout the marine industry, keeping a critical focus on sustainability, and VoltSafe is ready to help deliver all of it.
